Director of Curriculum Development
Kat Whitney is a co-founder and director of curriculum development of the Yoga Institute of the Berkshires. Tapping years of parenting, teaching and coaching, Kat is a loving and knowledgeable resource in the wild, fabulous and often hilarious quest for personal "true north." Using yoga and meditation practice, immersion in the dharma, life coaching and a healthy commitment to basic essentials as tools for self-love and growth, Kat has been teaching for over 20 years.
With 26 years on the mat , Kat's teaching integrates extensive training with Bikram Choudhury, Baron Baptiste, David Magone and Dharma Mittra. Her spiritual teacher is His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, and she has studied meditation with Sharon Saltzberg, Sally Kempton and Lama Migmar Tseten.
Kat currently teaches yoga at Yoga Great Barrington and the Red Lion Inn. She holds an Ed.M from Harvard University and is a Life Potentials Coach specializing in life transition.
With her life, yoga and educational experience, she is ready to fully empower the next generation of yoga teachers, sharing all she knows with her trademark passion, love & humor.
Director of Education
Gillian is the co-founder and director of the Yoga Institute of the Berkshires. From New York City to the Berkshires, Gillian has been teaching for over ten years in the field of alignment driven Vinyasa Yoga. She is also the co-director and master teacher of Radiance Yoga and Yoga Great Barrington.
Gillian’s education includes anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and a 1000-hour Massage Therapy training. Her yoga education started at the tender age of 19 and includes years steeped in Ashtanga and Iyengar Yoga with formal trainings in Forrest Yoga and several Vinyasa Yoga methods, including Jivamukti and Kula Yoga.
As a leader in modern vinyasa education, Gillian's skill is helping her students unlock their distinctive voice and purpose in the wide world of yoga. Her teaching style is informed by the distinctive needs of the individuals in her classes and utilizes her vast understanding of the body and the human learning process. She is committed to everybody "getting" AND embodying the life-enhancing principles of Yoga.
Instructor in Anatomy, Physiology & Kineseology
Karden Rabin is the Institute's anatomy, kinesiology and physiology instructor, as well as our resident joker. With over a decade of experience in the health and wellness field, he utilizes his multiple trainings in movement, science, healing modalities and mindfulness, to transform the lives of hundreds of students. Karden's primary skill as a teacher is making complex information dynamic, interesting and accessible.
Karden attended the Finger Lakes School of Massage in 2007, where he devoured all of his 1000-hour course and practical work, as well as Eastern philosophy. He also studied an array of wellness sciences at prestigious institutions such as Kripalu and The Milne Institute for Visionary Craniosacral Work, and with renowned teachers like Sue Hitzmann, creator of the MELT Method, Jill Miller, creator of the Yoga Tune Up, and Tom Myers, inventor of Anatomy Trains.
Karden is the creator and director of Boundless Wellness Center in West Stockbridge, MA. Combining time-tested techniques and principles from many modalities, he excels at designing integrative wellness solutions for individuals and groups that create breakthrough results in understanding their bodies and enhancing quality of life.
B.A. Dance/Arts Management
A professionally trained dancer and arts administrator, Olivia has dedicated much of her life to the study of the body and its movement. After graduating with a Bachelors in Dance and Arts Management from the Palladino School of Dance at Dean College in Franklin, MA, Olivia went on to pursue her 200 hour Yoga certification from the Kripalu School of Yoga. Her background in Arts Management makes her a fierce administrator, allowing her to move easily between for-profit and non-profit environments. Currently, Olivia teaches dance and yoga while maintaining her own personal practices in both disciplines and acts as an administrator for Yoga GB and Radiance Yoga here in Berkshire County. She handles registration, student concerns and endless details for Yoga Institute of the Berkshires™ and keeps us running like a well-oiled machine.
