Sri (divine beauty) is the essence of our campus.  Your time with us will feed more than your hunger for yoga knowledge; it will also soothe your soul and spirit.

Integrated into your learning experience with The Institute is our remarkable campus at Willard Hill- a living, breathing laboratory and home-away-from-home rich in history and natural beauty.

The campus is located in Interlaken, a small village of Stockbridge in the storied Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts.  Resting on the banks of the Larrywaug, a tributary of the Housatonic River and fed by the sacred waters of Lake Mahkeenac, the Mahican tribe camped here in the summer, calling it “The Happy Valley” because of its beauty, abundant game, fresh waters and cooler temperatures from the surrounding mountains.

Generations later, Willard Hill was developed for trade.  In the early 1800s, two buildings were constructed on either side of an historic stacked-stone bridge: the Main House and The Brick.  The Main House was built by Shaker craftsman as a small, elegant inn serving as a respite for stagecoach travelers. In the 20th century, Willard Hill was a fresh air home for young orphan girls from NYC.  With gorgeous chestnut floors, tall ceilings, 8 fireplaces, a formal dining room, formal parlor and library, spacious porches, updated commercial kitchen, 9 cozy bedrooms, modern baths and a spacious yoga classroom, Willard Hill is on the National Register of Historic Places and retains its 1833 charm.

The Brick served as the mill office, weavery and store.  Its large-span rooms, hardwood floors, and leaded-glass windows provide The Institute with our Main Classroom, additional practice space and two queen bedrooms with modern baths for visiting faculty.

In addition to these unique historic buildings which serve as our classroom, dining and lodging facilities, the grounds of Willard Hill are an extraordinary laboratory.  Organic, biodynamic gardens abound and include fruit trees, vegetables, berries, medicinal and culinary herbs and extensive perennial beds. At Willard Hill we sugar off in the spring, making our own maple syrup; produce from the garden is a staple in our farm-to-table meals. Free-range hens supply morning eggs.

Students are free to wander, rest, and explore the gardens, waterways and bridges.  A small island with a private swimming hole is a perfect place to cool off or meditate next to the waterfall.  Sri (divine beauty) is the essence of our campus.  Your time with us will feed more than your hunger for yoga knowledge; it will also soothe your soul and spirit as you return again and again to the sound of the running brook and our stunning shala in The Happy Valley.

The Institute has a variety of on-campus housing options with accommodation for up to 18 students.  We offer private rooms with Queen four-poster and double/full beds, shared twin bedrooms, single rooms with fireplaces and even a super-economical bunk option that allows for comfortable accommodation tucked cozily into the eaves of one of the yoga classrooms.  All bathrooms are shared; there are 5 full and two half baths on campus.  Lodging includes a healthy farm breakfast in the kitchen of the Main House.  You will receive information about housing, prices and availability when you register for your course.

Should you prefer more services, a private bathroom and the luxury of on-site swimming pool, hot tub, exercise room and three restaurants, the Institute has an excellent relationship with The Red Lion Inn, located 2.7 miles from campus in Stockbridge Center. We can refer you to the Inn where you will receive a special lodging rate.  Please note that there is a Commuter Fee  to cover meals and snacks if you are staying off site during a training.
